Introduction
by
Holger "H-Ray" Heine
When John Grasberger of the San Francisco Historical Society invited me on a flight with his helicopter, I did not hesitate. I love flying, and the opportunity to see and photograph San Francisco from the air was a dream come true. Flying in a small aircraft, however, is quite a different experience from travelling on a commercial airliner - especially when the aircraft is a small, 2-seat helicopter with the passenger's side door removed so as to allow for better picture taking... It took a few minutes to adjust to the sensation of flying several hundred feet above the ground with the "window" rolled down all the way to the floor, so to speak. But the sheer beauty of the scenery, and
the excitement and thrill of flying in an "open" helicopter across the
Bay Area soon took over. It is a great pleasure to share some
of the images taken on this flight.
